Turin, July 2025 – The Italian Parliament has just approved a new law to protect animals. A major step toward a more civilized society, they say. And we can only agree: animal rights are now also rights of conscience.
But there’s one thing the law, noble and well-written, forgot on the sidewalk: public hygiene.
Because if the dog is protected… the pavement is not.
A four-legged Constitution
Law No. 82/2025 officially recognizes animals as “sentient beings” and rightly provides protections against mistreatment, abandonment, and even punishes the failure to assist an injured animal.
- A hit dog must be helped.
- A dog tied to a balcony can trigger a report.
- An overworked horse can now seek justice.
But if the dog leaves a “surprise” by your door, and the owner just walks away…
No one can report the indecency. Not the door. Not the neighbor. Not the pavement.
The problem isn’t the dogs. It’s some humans.
In Turin’s District IV, just steps from the baroque gem of Parco Tesoriera, built between 1713 and 1715, there’s a well-equipped, free, and clearly marked dog area with bags and scoops.
And yet, “traces” appear under walls, bushes, and car wheels.
It’s not a lack of services. It’s a lack of civic awareness.

That’s why we’re launching —with kindness but firmness— multilingual labels in the areas most frequented by four-legged friends (and their humans).
Discreet signs, with QR codes, helpful images, and a simple message:
“The dog does it, you pick it up.”
They’re available in Italian, Spanish, English, Swahili, Bengali, and Arabic.
Not for exotic flair, but because Turin is a global port.
And coexistence is a universal language.
The law has taken a step forward. Now it’s the citizens’ turn.
Even those holding the leash with one hand…
and an unused bag in the other.
