The Aquarium responds late and poorly: “The dolphins are fine”
Four months after the closure of Mar del Plata’s Aquarium, institutional silence was broken in the worst possible way: not with an official statement, not with a technical report, but by reacting to viral photos showing dolphins in greenish pools.
“We have cared for them for 30 years, why wouldn’t we do it now?” defended marine biologist Alejandro Saubidet in statements to Mi8. He added that the green water is “normal,” since no shows are being held anymore and the water doesn’t need to be transparent.
The explanation comes late. Far too late. And it raises more questions than answers:
If everything was fine, why wasn’t it communicated before social media exploded? Why does the community learn from neighbors’ photos and not from official reports? Why is the transfer of dolphins abroad still stuck in bureaucratic limbo?
Ultimately, the debate goes beyond biology and touches on public trust: humanity thanks humanity… but only when it is exercised on time, not when it is improvised defensively.
