And oil is once again a weapon of pressure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While missiles rain down on nuclear facilities in the Middle East, their echo reaches Europe with another frequency: <em>cling<\/em>, goes the gas nozzle. Not by magic, but by an old unwritten law that rules the global board: every bomb dropped in the desert drives prices up at the pump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Friday, following the U.S. strike in support of Israel, oil prices surged \u2014 and with them, fuel prices. Brent and WTI hit their highest levels since January. The result: fuel prices in Italy are back to April levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-service gasoline: <strong>\u20ac1.748\/litre<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-service diesel: <strong>\u20ac1.670\/litre<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full-service gasoline: <strong>\u20ac1.886\/litre<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full-service diesel: <strong>\u20ac1.806\/litre<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And on some highways, so-called eco-gasoline has surpassed <strong>\u20ac2.30\/litre<\/strong>, a record that even the most pessimistic didn\u2019t expect so soon. Consumers talk of \u201cspeculation,\u201d though <em>Assopetroli<\/em> downplays it: \u201cWe see no speculative trends,\u201d they state with a poker face. \u201cLet\u2019s promote a culture of conscious mobility,\u201d they add \u2014 as if refueling had become a philosophical act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the Ministry of Business isn\u2019t satisfied with mantras: it has activated the <strong>Rapid Alert Commission<\/strong>, a sort of watchdog that, apparently, was dozing off during the price surge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the National Consumers Union, a full tank now costs <strong>\u20ac2 more than just a week ago<\/strong>. And if the situation in Iran worsens with a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 a chokepoint for one-third of the world\u2019s crude \u2014 oil could reach <strong>$100 per barrel<\/strong>, pushing Italy\u2019s gasoline average to <strong>\u20ac2.024\/litre<\/strong>. Enough to make even hybrid cars think twice before hitting the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing is certain: beyond the distributors\u2019 statements, <strong>this war has become a domestic matter<\/strong>, intimate and daily. It is waged with every receipt we get at the station.
